elementsの第3回目のテーマは「CLIMATE / 気候 風土」です。

地球は東西南北で気候が異なり、それらに適合するように様々な植物や動物が暮らしています。
また、海沿い、平野、山腹などの地理的条件によっても自然環境は異なり、順応する動植物も異なります。
こういったダイナミズムは、地球上で最も尊いことのひとつです。

それと同様に、このような異なる自然条件に果敢に挑み、順応して暮らす、土地土地の人々の営みにもまた強い敬意を抱かされます。
現在の「風土」「土地柄」といわれるもののほとんどは、長い歳月をかけて人々が気候条件に順応し克服していった長い歴史によって形作られていったものであると言え、価値観や技術がグローバル化している現代において、それらは永久保存版の人類の“偉業”であると考えます。

elementsの第3回では、気候が生み出した諸条件とそれに順応してきた人間の営みをリサーチし、知恵の保存とアップデートを探ります。

As we explored FIRE in elements 01 and STACK & BIND in elements 02, we have chosen CLIMATE as the theme for our third edition.

The Earth’s climate varies depending on location—whether in the north, south, east, or west—shaping the diverse ecosystems of plants and animals that have adapted to their surroundings. Furthermore, natural environments shift according to geographical features, such as coastlines, valleys, and hillsides, influencing the ways in which life evolves and thrives in response. This dynamic diversity is undoubtedly one of the most precious aspects of our planet.

At the same time, we hold deep respect for the people who have embraced the challenges of living in these varied climates, continuously adapting to their environments. What we now call cultural climates or regional characteristics are, in many ways, the result of generations of human ingenuity—people shaping their lives in response to climate conditions over long periods of time. In an era where values and technologies are becoming increasingly globalized, these accumulated adaptations stand as remarkable achievements of humankind, worthy of preservation and continued evolution.

For our third edition, elements will explore the ways in which climate has shaped both natural environments and human ways of life, seeking to preserve and reimagine the wisdom that has emerged from this ongoing relationship.
